Yahoo! Maps Comes to Town

The competition is increasing for Google... Yahoo! is launching its response to Google Maps. Yahoo! Maps, naturally. It's still in the beta stage right now but the bonuses are: Multi-point driving directions, Live Traffic stats, and an excellent integration with Yahoo! Local to name a few. Yes, I do like being able to know how I get from my house to a friend's house to that restaurant near my friend and if I'll run into any major traffic issues.
TechCrunch's Michael Arrington has an in-depth review of the power of Yahoo! Maps. Pretty impressive.

I took a look at the API's the offer and its good that they are still saying Y!Maps is in beta. If you click on the plots for tracking a hurricane, the popup windows showed me HTML coding as well as an option for directions into the middle of the ocean.

Love the 'traffic' feature on this site. Very cool.

You can get Google Maps on your cell phone now. What will Yahoo! do now?

That is interesting. Maybe it's something Yahoo will incorporate before they launch the official version... according to one of the article's comments (in the original post), Flash Lite, a Flash profile developed for mobile phones, is pretty big in Japan. I haven't found anything yet but maybe this will pick up some interest in the U.S. soon as well.
