WebSolvers Launches Portal for Global Golf Post

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Global Golf Post, the first designed for digital weekly golf news publication in the world, is delivered as a weekly digital edition using the well-regarded Texterity platform.  Global Golf Post (GGP) wanted to extend the publication’s content into a search-engine friendly platform with the hope of exposing the content to organic Web search traffic.  Working closely with the teams at GGP and Texterity, WebSolvers released a portal with said specifications.

Like many good ideas, our client’s started with a simple sketch of the vision and direction:

Many great ideas begin with a simple sketch.

Initial Conceptual Sketch

Using the client’s sketch, WebSolvers led a wireframing process with the client to lay out the key elements of the home page such as feature sections, story headlines and sponsor ad blocks.  A simple blueprint emerged:

Once the team was comfortable with the wireframes, the process moved into the Design & User Experience realm where WebSolvers developed and refined an attractive, engaging system for the content.  Special emphasis was placed on enticing users to both (a) enter contests and (b) subscribe to the publication.

The concept for the home page was then extended to the individual story pages.  Under the assumption that most long-tail organic searches would bring users directly to story pages (instead of the home page itself), we focused on keeping the sub-pages simple and uncluttered:  the layout focuses attention on the objective of generating contest entries and subscriptions:

Since Global Golf Post generates a wealth of content on a weekly basis, the process for updating the content was heavily contemplated.  After much client exploration, WebSolvers installed a simple content management tool to facilitate the fast and easy process of future story publication.  Stories can easily be cut and pasted into the interface; because of proper planning, the content is inserted into the appropriate locations within the portal.  An example of the client interface is below:

WebSolvers also installed simple social-sharing devices to allow users to easily share the content they like on Twitter and Facebook, among others:

Perhaps the most important outcome was the satisfaction of our client, Jim Nugent, Publisher of Global Golf Post:  “Kudos to team WebSolvers…for a job very well done getting our portal launched.  Thanks for all you did to make this happen.”

(Southborough, MA) – Leading digital publishing provider, Texterity, (http://www.texterity.com) and internet strategists, WebSolvers, (http://www.websolvers.com) are working with the publishers of Global Golf Post (http://digital.globalgolfpost.com./) to turn today’s Masters Preview Issue into a place where golf enthusiasts can gather and share Masters Memories.

Designed like a scrapbook, this special digital issue covers tournament highlights and features memories from players like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods. Global Golf Post is the first weekly digital-only publication devoted to the golfing audience.

Digital subscriptions are free and available at http://www.globalgolfpost.com/mastersmemories .

Readers are invited to submit their own favorite Masters memories on Twitter and Facebook using the #mastersmemories hashtag. Social conversations will be aggregated on a Masters Tweet Board at http://www.globalgolfpost.com/masterstweetboard. A dozen Nike golf balls will be awarded for each of the ten most creative entries. (Nike Golf is the exclusive sponsor of the Masters Preview Issue.)

This digital edition, produced independently of the tournament, features rich media to engage readers, ads that link to advertiser websites, and a variety of social media tools to help build community.

“This represents a groundbreaking effort in the golf media world,” says Matt Certo, CEO of WebSolvers. “Our aggregation of user-generated media coverage of The Masters is a first. We’re filling this vacancy in a rather bold way that adds a new dimension of insight for our audience. We are encouraging our users to share their favorite Masters Memories through the #mastersmemories hashtag and aggregating user conversations on the Global Golf Post Masters TweetBoard. And we’ll be extending the theme on Facebook.”

Says Martin Hensel, president of Texterity, “Golf enthusiasts are one of the most passionate audiences we see, so being able to engage them every Monday and now interact with them around this classic event, is exciting. Our collaboration with WebSolvers demonstrates the community-building potential of our digital and mobile platforms, truly making the digital edition an integral part of the real-life experience.”

Jim Nugent, president and publisher of Global Golf Post adds, “We’ve already attracted tens of thousands of subscribers in just three months. By offering more than a magazine, we think it will become the destination for golf news and information. The Masters preview is the first of six special issues this year.”

Ten of Our Recent Client Engagements

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

When we started WebSolvers in 1995, the Web was a brand new medium.  We don’t need to tell you how much technology has changed, but we do want to share with you how much we have.  Instead of boring you with theory, here is a list of ten recent engagements that we’ve completed that give you an idea of what we do now (in addition to developing engaging, effective Web sites like we always have):

  1. In-house social media seminar for an executive team – We led a half day session in a corporate office showcasing some relevant case studies and brainstorming on a strategic direction for a global holding company of over 50 subsidiaries.
  2. Digital branding for a newly-launched investment fund – We worked with a team of veteran hedge fund executives to conceive and execute a brand identity for a start-up hedge fund.
  3. Custom application development for a consumer brand – We worked with a consumer products company to architect and implement extranet functionality between both suppliers and distributors.
  4. Customer retention campaign – We worked with a service provider to conceive, implement, and track an email campaign designed to stimulate referrals and reduce customer attrition.
  5. Email newsletter launch – We worked with a client to design and implement an ongoing email newsletter campaign.
  6. Viral marketing campaign for a consumer product launch – We implemented and measured a viral campaign involving an email announcement, targeted contest-giveaway, and in-depth database construction.
  7. Remote social media training for a tourist destination – We conducted a 2 hour Webinar for an organization in order to train team members on implementing a company-specific social media strategy.
  8. Custom Web design for a software portal – We designed and produced a series of graphical “skins” for a client’s newly-selected software portal.
  9. Internet Marketing Plan for a consumer product – We developed an Internet Marketing Plan for a consumer product that was already seeing a healthy level of online sales but wanted to increase lead generation and visitor conversion.
  10. Google AdWords campaign management - We developed and managed a year-long campaign to help a non-profit agency attract and convert new customers from relevant Google searches.

The list could go on, but we’re pretty excited about how things have evolved.  If you’d like help in developing some new strategies or implementing some new tactics, please let us know.  We would love to share with you what we’re learning.
